Product Information

A  fine & rare what we believe is a Grenadier Officers Visor Cap.

A very nice quality, Govt Clothing issued, Grenadier Officers green/field grey, wool blend construction visor cap with green/blue ( almost black ) centerband, green piping to the crown edge and both the top and bottom edges of the centerband. The internal crown stiffening wire, internal padding and a vertical stiffener to the interior front are all still intact and and so give the cap an oval crown shape with a high, central, forward peak. The front center of the cap has second pattern, silver washed, stamped alloy national eagle with out-stretched wings, clutching a wreathed swastika in its talons. This type of Cap badge appeared around Circa 1936/1937-1945 and this is a nice example, slightly tarnished in areas but good condition. The front center of the Cap has a hand embroidered, oak-leaf wreath in silver/aluminum wire bullion threads. The centre encompasses a national two-color cockade which is constructed of black and silver/aluminum wire threads with an inserted black wool centerpiece. The whole thing is mounted on a cut-out, black wool base which will have been handstitched in place. The Chin Cord is twisted, silver/aluminum which is held to the cap by two silver washed alloy buttons, that have been given a pebbled effect. The cap's visor is black lacquered, vulcanfiber with no simulated trim, but the edge of the rim is slighly raised. The inside of the cap has hand-stiched green lining which I presume is a silk. The crown area has a clear celluloid sweat band that is fully intact other than some stitching that has come loose and is fairly grubby. It has feint remnants of the makers details that read "Offizier Kleiderkasse Berlin, (Officers Clothing Account Berlin), and the stylized, manufacturer’s logo, "Erel", indicating manufacture by the Robert Lubstein firm of Berlin. The interior of the cap also very fine tanned leather sweat band all the way round that is a bit grubby but still well stiched in place and in great condition, with perforated sweat area to the front. On one side of the leather sweat band is a feint impressed and printed manufacturer’s mark that reads "Erel", indicating manufacture by the Robert Lubstein firm of Berlin, "Stirnschutz", (Forehead Protection) and "patent".

This is an extremely nice Grenadier Officers Visor, all intact and made by a private maker that must have been paid by the military to provide high-end Visors for Officers, under payment from the Government. Slight pitting to the Visor but usual for the age, fading to the coloured piping and the eagle has lost about 50% of its silvering and a bit grubby, but overall in VG condition.
